CANADA

Canada is where I call home.

I was born in Toronto, I live in Toronto, I work in Toronto and I party in Toronto.

I bleed blue for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Red for the Raptors and Toronto FC.

As much as I love travelling to other countries, I make a conscious effort to include my city, my province (Ontario) and my country in all my travels.

How to Spend 2 Days in Montreal No Matter the Weather: A Montreal Itinerary

The last time I visited Montreal was a whopping 10 years ago. Sheesh, that’s bad (and worse when said out loud).  I’m from Toronto, but I don’t subscribe to the whole Toronto Maple Leafs vs Montreal Canadians hockey rivalry. I cannot deny that a Montreal itinerary will have tons of history. It will be a…

Official Language

English, French

Currency

The Canadian dollar (symbol: $; code: CAD; French: dollar Canadian) is the currency of Canada.

Food

Canadian cuisine varies widely as the country is so culturally diverse. The most common traditional Canadian dishes are poutine (a tasty dish consists of french fries and cheese curds topped with light-brown gravy), Back Bacon and Maple Syrup.

Check, Check & Check – I love all three 🙂

Electricity

Power plugs and sockets are of type A and B. The standard voltage is 120 V and the standard frequency is 60 Hz.

Public Transit

In Toronto, the public transportation service is called the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). In Montreal, the public transportation authority is called the Société de transport de Montréal (STM). The “GO train ” is the most used railway system in the southern part of the province of Ontario. VIA Rail will take you across the country.

Driving

Canadians drive on the right-hand side of the road and speed limits are posted in metric units. Everyone in the car has to wear a seatbelt and mobile devices must be used in “hands-free” mode when driving.

Please note that Montreal is the only city in Canada that does not allow right-hand turns on a red light – they always need to be different from those Montrealers. Sheesh.

Stopover or Layover Destinations

Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver

Safety

Violent crime in Canada is low and almost non-existent in popular holiday spots and ski resorts. As with any popular nightlife area, fights and shootings can happen but are very infrequent.
